Dive Report from the Local Blue Spearo's

Post  Dieter on Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:33 pm

Leonard

Hi there
For once the water was blue , the temp was right , and there was fish to
shoot . We launched at Arniston on Sunday . Christo's stump 5.5kg . Red
steenbras 8kg .
Myself Bankie 5.5kg . Tassle 7 kg . Red roman 2.2kg . A good lesson was
learned this weekend .I am a commercial diver by trade and Diver medic .
Dean Inggs cut 3 of his fingers open while trying to kill a fish . I had a
small first aid kit onboard , that you buy at most boat shops . There was
not adequate bandages and so on in the kit . Not for a first aid kit anyway
. I shudder to think if there was a more serious accident like a prop knock
or a shark attack . I urge all of you guys to get a first aid kit and keep
it in your car or boat . Make sure you have enough bandages { pressure pads
crepe etc. as well as tourniquet } Headache tablets ,splints , neck brace .
It really can save a life . Keep a bottle of vinager as well for those blue
bottle stings. I do have a list of basic first aid stuff that we use
offshore . So if the club is interested I can always put a kit like that
together and find out the cost of it .
Best regards
Leonard van Wyk

just before sedgefield on the right, you get a turnoff.....past golf course/camping spot and then to end of road. park and walk right along the beach towards the point (Gerrikes).
