Some tips for a new snorkel:

Simple simple,simple, simple,simple.

Sstay away from fancy valves, gatgets whatever. They tend to break or not work properly.

It must be a tube with a mounthpiece that it. Nothing else.

Just make sure that the mounthpiece is silicon and that it is comfortable so it dioesnt rub you gums.

Thats all there is to it.

Another tip for a snorkel that i learnt this weekend is a short snorkel with the large bore is best as it provides plenty of air with least respiratory effort and be sure the attachment point of the snorkel to the mask strap is squeak-free as this might scare the fish!!!

I have to agree with Vaaitjie ,

Stay away from the purge valve snorkles , if they break while you are diving it is a nightmare .

Some really good value for money snorkles are the new J snorkles from Saeko Dive , we sell these snorkles for R 80.00 each

If you want to come and have a look give me a shout

Anothe rtip is a snorkel that is as long as possible, I found my SEAC to be very comfy, but a bit short, in choppy water I have to clean my snorkel the whole time.

Consider Different Snorkel Features
This is a some up of everything you should look for and know when choosing a snorkel. This includes the stuff on in this forum!!
Snorkels come in a range of new designs. Here are some things to consider when shopping for snorkel gear:

Snorkel length: The longer the snorkel, the less likely water will splash in. But shorter snorkels are easier to breathe through.
Snorkel diameter: The wider the hole, the easier it is to draw in air. But a wider hole may allow more water in as well.
Make sure your snorkel does not have unneeded turns or angles that will inhibit the air flow.
Snorkels with flexible tubing tend to snag less on snorkel equipment.
purge valves below the mouthpiece should keep water out of your mouth when you surface but if they break while diving its a huge problem so you shouldnt bother with them.
Some snorkels have mouthpieces that swivel, while more expensive ones have removable mouthpieces similar to scuba gear BUT Cape spearfishing Suppliers have the newJ snorkels from Saeko Dive any they are perfect form diving and only cost R80 each.

Very Happy
