Choosing you finns:

Post  Vaatjie on Sat Feb 06, 2010 3:52 am

Hi Guys

I just thought I would post some thing to consider for newbies when buying finns.

Make sure that you fit the finn with booties on, otherwise whats the use
Make sure that the footpockets are comfy and doesnt rub anywhere, rememeber you might be in the water fro hours at a time, blisters are not cool
Consider finns with blades that can be removed so you can change the blades if the break or you want to upgrade.
Keep in mind you rdiving conditions, if you do rocky shore entries, maybe plastics are a better option as teh takle mopre punishment. Boat dives or surf entries...carbons may be wiorth the money.

A question alot of new diver think or ask and i was one of them lol why cant i use scuba fins??
well heres why??
Scuba fins VS Long Bladed Free-dving fins

Scuba fins are short fins, which will work for shallow water diving. For deeper diving, long bladed fins are more suited. WHY? Well, everything in spearfishing has to do with conserving your strength, thereby conserving your very precious oxygen supply in your lungs. The long bladed fins simply offer the BEST propulsion, for the least amount of energy exerted. Which means, you save your precious oxygen, thereby extending your bottom time.

Carbon fins vs Plastic fins is like day-and-night. The carbons will exponentially allow greater effiency in the water, improving speed, depth, and consequently bottom time
