Hunting Galjoen
The season starts now early March I think.
Galjoen is a shit scared little fish. The are the exact opposite of Hottie. If the see you they are gone...thi sseems to be more so in season.
You can easily identify them by a prominent fin in the centre of the tail and jerky swimming action. They tend to swim faster than Hottie.
If you see them be as quite as possible and try not to make sudden movements they will scatter. Make sure your dive is perfect and noiseless.
o and it sR500 a fish out of season for a fine. Min size is 35 cm.

They also are more relaxed if they see the first time when you are on the bottom first... if they see while you are on the surface you can garentee that they will bolt! I love hunting these fish but I'm not the biggest fan of their taste!
Gallie
Hi eckhart
I agree yes, also like to hunt them but not to fond of the taste.
I enjoy the challenge because their so skittish.
Fuzzy once joked, you cant be a Cape Town spearo if you havent shot a Gallie.
When you joining us for a training session or a dive?

Re: Hunting Galjoen
You will be amazed how shallow Gallies will go! The funniest story I remember was my brother unloading his gun after a dive and when he was waist deep he was surrounded by a school of Gallies, he ended standing up and shouting that there's fish but by the time he reloaded they had vanished!!!
Also look for "hottspots" this is a area where there are alot of smaller fish... just wait if you are calm and noiseless they will come!

Re: Hunting Galjoen
I agree with Echart completely
It is a misconception that big fish is always in deeper water.
I shot a 6kg cracker in 2m.

gallies
never neglect caves and overhangs in deeper water when looking for gallies guys I've seen entire shoals crammed up in these especially when one or two raggies are about.
